She was continually active in her church and her community. She belonged to the church choir, the Guadalupanas, the Sacred Heart, San Antonio Leagues, and was a member of the women’s auxiliary of the Hermanos de Nuestro Padre Jesus. She saw everyone as a child of God, worthy of acceptance, love, and respect, and treated them accordingly. She loved people, especially little children. She worked as a gramita at Arroyos Del Norte Elementary School. This is where she acquired the title of “Grandma Nina” to hundreds of kids and their families. She had many talents and interests. She loved to work in her garden, canned fruits, and vegetables, and made jams and jellies. She was also a wonderful cook and baker. A fan favorite was her delicious biscochitos. She loved to read; she wrote stories and poems and drew pictures. She loved music as well. She had a beautiful voice and enjoyed singing. She sang for weddings (entregas), funerals, posadas, and church. She was an excellent seamstress and could sew, crochet, knit, and weave. She made beautiful blankets. She was always working on a project. Most of the gifts she gave were handmade specifically for that person. Nina was also into family histories and genealogy before it became popular. She knew the local people of the village and could go back generations. She felt it was important to know who you were related to and how. She was a blessing to everyone who was lucky enough to know her and she will be greatly missed. Rosary will be recited on Monday June 12th, 2023 at 7:00pm at Holy Trinity Parish in Arroyo Seco.
