Tina V. Martinez, 97, passed away peacefully at home on June 1, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.
She was born to Juan Jose & Teodorita Vigil on Canyon Road in Santa Fe, NM, on October 31, 1925. Tina was eldest of 6 siblings. Tina is preceded in death by her Father & Mother; loving husband Polito E. Martinez, of whom she was married to for 64 years; her beloved son Teodoro “Teddy” Martinez; and beloved brother Johnny Vigil.
Tina is survived by her children Polito E. Martinez, Jr. (Rosie), Patsy Vigil (Raul), J. Donald Martinez, Tina Jo “Tiny” Martinez; grandchildren Polito E. Martinez III, Marlene Quintana (Arnold), Raul Vigil, Jr. (Donna), Michael Vigil (Denise), Mark Vigil, Monica Martinez, Mark “Marcos” Flores II (Rosa), Teodoro Flores (Elena), Andrew Flores (Sandy), McCoy Martinez, Madison Martinez (Brooke). Tina is survived by her beautiful & beloved sisters Socorro, Celine, Olivia (John), & Georgia (Johnny); 24 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, neighbors, friends, relatives and adopted children and grandchildren. Tina was a mom and grandma to all that crossed her path, she was known throughout Taos and the surrounding areas as “Grandma Tina”.
Tina believed in serving her community and did so in many ways; she retired as the former 8th Judicial District Court Clerk, along with serving as a Taos Municipal School Board Member, 1980-1984. Tina was a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and served as Treasurer and Board Member of the Talpa Mutual Domestic Water Association. Tina was very devout in her Catholic faith and many years Tina and her late husband Polito served as Mayordomos for Nuestra Señora De San Juan De Los Lagos Capilla in Talpa and for the San Francisco De Asís Catholic Church in Ranchos de Taos. After retirement Tina was a hostess at People’s Bank for 14 years, serving coffee, cookies and popcorn to all that entered. Tina was honored with the title of Grand Marshal of the Fiestas de Taos in 2017.
In her last remaining years, Tina enjoyed her time surrounded by her family, enjoying many barbeques, matanzas and family gatherings. Grandma Tina loved people and people loved her. Grandma Tina enjoyed cooking and feeding all that entered her home, she was specially known for her famous traditional homemade Tortillas, Frijoles, Chile Rojo, Torta de Huevo and Chokecherry Jelly.
The family was blessed with her love and beautiful smile until our good Lord called her home. Grandma Tina will forever be missed and will always hold a special place in our hearts.
Rosary will be recited on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at 9:00am followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:00am at San Francisco de Asis Catholic Church.
