Stuart Jones

Stuart Cornwell Jones was born to Herbert N. Jones and Barbara Cornwell Jones on January 5, 1947 in New York.  He attended and graduated from the Princeton HUN school.  He went on to study Economics and Broadcast Journalism at Emerson University in Boston where he received his degrees in 1969.  He then hopped in his VW Bug and headed to Taos where his mother, Barbara and stepfather, Stephen Machcinski, Jr. owned KKIT Radio Station.  Stuart immediately became a steady voice on Taos Radio.

Through the years, Stuart was always willing to assist the community, serving on several boards, including Taos County Crime Stoppers and First Northern Savings and Loan and was a charter sponsor of the Taos Mountain Balloon Rally where he made many friends in the ballooning community.  He received many plaques, citations and certificates to honor his contributions to the community he called home.  Stuart Jones was well respected and loved by all who knew him, his voice was heard for over 30 years, now silenced, he will be missed.

Stuart passed away peacefully on September 18th, after a lengthy illness.  He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Marsha Stogner; stepbrother Steve Machcinski, III; and stepsister Victoria Machcinski; brother-in-law Tracy Sutherland (Pauline Cordova); sister-in-law Laurenda Terrell; sister-in-law Monique Fullbright (Chris Fullbright); stepson Nathan Cohn; stepdaughter Allison Cohn (Chris Poccia); step-grandchildren Alec, Bella Jean and Jack Poccia; and his KKIT Family and friends who were also his brothers and sisters. 

He was preceded in death by his father Herbert N. Jones, mother Barbara L. Cornwell Machcinski; stepfather Stephen A. Machcinski, Jr. and favorite uncle John Cornwell.

A Celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, October 8, 2023 from 12pm to 4pm at the Sagebrush Inn Convention Center.
