On Sunday, August 25, 2024, Robert Henry “Bob” Burt, age ninety-five, passed away at home surrounded by his family. Bob was born in August, 1929 to Gaylord Sr. and Mary Frances Burt. He was raised in Taos with his five siblings.
As a young man, Robert was the jockey for the prize-winning racehorse GayDalton, spending a great deal of time training and racing in both the U.S. and in Mexico. Bob attended Taos High School where he played football, basketball, baseball and competed in track. He graduated with the Class of 1948. Following high school, Bob attended Georgetown University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Foreign Service from the School of Foreign Service. During the Korean War, Bob proudly served our country in the United States Army.
On November 8, 1958, Robert married Catherine White at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Taos and they began their journey of life together. The couple resided in Gallup and moved to Santa Fe where their three children, Matthew, Susanne and Andrew were born. Employed by General Motors as a branch manager, Bob was transferred to Albuquerque and finally to Harlingen, Texas where he worked until his retirement. After retirement, Bob and Cathie moved back to Taos, making their home in the foothills of Taos surrounded by beautiful vistas. Bob had a great love for gardening, which was evident in the expansive garden he grew year after year.
Robert is survived by his wife, Catherine and his children Matthew, Susanne and Andrew (Xiouyen). He was blessed with grandchildren Marisa (Jesse), Shane, Tyler and Amy and great-grandchildren Brance, Amelie and Danielle. Bob’s surviving siblings are Marilyn Hokanson, Gaylord Jr. (Rosalba), and George (Dottie), as well as brother-in-law Ren White. He is also survived by many other family members.
Bob is predeceased by his parents, sisters Betty Eatough and Katherine Tenczar.
