Reuben Elias Gonzales 73, was born in Albuquerque, NM to Reuben J. Gonzales and Dorothy Stein on March 3, 1951. He is survived by his partner, Rosalie; brother Frank and many cousins and friends. His childhood friend Dale Rankin remained his loyal friend until the end. His second family consisted of Albert, Gerri, Monroe and Hope Morgas.
Reuben was a devoted Catholic and was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and served as mayordomo. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. His faith was important to him.
Reuben worked in retail at all the shops owned by George Cook in the Taos Plaza. Reuben was a joyful, caring, and happy-go-lucky person. His personality was part of his ability when it came to selling merchandise. Reuben also worked at First State Bank as a teller. He also worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) and continued to do that until he was diagnosed with symptoms of dementia / Alzheimer’s. With the loving care provided by Rosalie, he weathered his terrible illness until he peacefully succumbed to this illness on January 30, 2025.
Special thanks to Lawrence Sisneros, Rosalie’s brother, who assisted with his care; and Donna Coppadonia, Reuben’s hospice nurse.
