Nicolas Romero

Nicolas (Nico) Matthew Romero passed away unexpected at the age of 18 years old on August 19th, 2021 in Taos, New Mexico. Nico was a beloved son, grandson, brother, nephew and friend. Nico was joyful, generous, creative, and kind. His loss will forever change so many lives.

Nico was born June 16, 2003 in Taos, New Mexico to Shara Martinez and Jon Trujillo. He grew up in Taos and attended Vista Grande High School. Nico had a generous and creative spirit. He was a talented artist and excelled at piano. Nico was always a strong and vocal advocate. He felt passionately about multiple causes and he always strived to protect others. One of Nico’s greatest prides and joys in life was being a big brother, a job at which he excelled.

Nico’s legacy of unconditional love and generosity will be carried on by all who shared a piece of their life with him. He will continue to be a part of this world through his mother Shara Martinez Romero and his little brother, Shawn. He will also continue through his half-sister, Teresa. Nico’s memory will endure through his numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Nico adored his grandparents and his love will continue through them, including; Ama Yoya, Wayne and Rachel Romero, and Wanda and Carl Wilson. Nico’s many friends and large family of choice will always carry forward Nico’s values of loyalty and kindness.

We can only imagine what it will be like for the years to pass in front of us without our beloved Nico. However, we are comforted by the idea that he is with friends and family members that meant so much to him. He is preceded in death by his great grandparents Victor and Berta Martinez as well as Hipolito and Lila Romero.

Nico will always be remembered for his gentle spirit, grace, and generosity. We invite you to a celebration of his too short but impactful life. Funeral Services will be held Friday, August 27th, 10:00 A.M. in the Evergreen Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home of Taos, 1524 Paseo del Pueblo Sur followed by interment at Old Llano Cemetery. All are welcome.
