Nick Ortega age 92, a resident of Questa, passed away peacefully April 23, 2023.
He was preceded in death by his parents Juan Benito and Teodorita Ortega; siblings Norbert Ortega (Arabella), Sr. Neomi Ortega, Elouise Duran and Marthita Ortega; brothers-in-law Tony Martinez, Armando Jaramillo, Floyd Cisneros; and in-laws Gilbert and Ramona Cisneros.
Nick proudly served his country in the United States Army. After he returned from his tour of duty, he worked for many years as a carpenter and was instrumental in establishing the Questa Credit Union. He was an accomplished stained-glass artist.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years Martha Ortega; children Cathy Cisneros (Larry), Barbara Overby Vigil (Art), Eugene Ortega (Clara), Susan Chavez (Jeremy); grandchildren Larry Joshua Cisneros (Harlea), Jonathan Cisneros, Michael Cisneros, Deanna Overby, Justin Ortega, Audrey Trujillo, Isabella Chavez and Gabriella Chavez; great-grandson Gilbert Trujillo; sister Mary Martinez; brothers-in-law Damian Duran, Johnny Cisneros (Della) and Gilbert Cisneros (Pauline); sisters-in-law Erma Jaramillo, Mary LaCome (Paul) and Ruby Gonzales (Ted); plus many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Rosary will be recited on Friday, April 28, 2023 at 4:00pm in the Evergreen Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home of Taos. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at 10:00am at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Questa, burial will follow at the San Pedro Cemetery.
