Montella Smith

d. February 8, 2025

Montella L. Robbins Smith entered this world on July 19, 1939 and was called home on February 8, 2025. Montella was the daughter of Pauline Long Robbins and Carl Robbins, sister to Georgia Robbins and Danny Robbins, and her daughter Kimberly Morisette who all preceded her in passing were there to welcome her home. She is survived by her sister Betty Robbins of Montrose Colorado who will miss her very much. She is also survived by her sons Kevin Brennan (Carla) and Karl Brennan (Jennifer), 4 grandchildren David Welch, Amy Welch Myers, Joseph Fitzgibbons and Kindra Brennan, great grandchildren Brice, Emily, Trenton, Brennan, Isaiah, and Olivia.

Montella was a medicine woman and enjoyed going to powwows. She taught most of us Raki and often read our cards, in her earlier years while she studied about her history as a Missouri Otoe. She embraced her Native American history and shared it with all her family. She enjoyed spending time visiting with family, over a game of cards or a puzzle. She loved creating her dreamcatchers, she made one with all of her grandchildren. She enjoyed doing different crafts with her grandchildren and a few times with their friends at Little Bug. She volunteered at St. James church during food distributions and most new her as the candy lady.

She enjoyed sitting by rivers and streams in the mountains, she would search for driftwood and beautiful stones to add to her collections. She always said she liked how peaceful it was in the mountains. We will all miss her and know that she is in a better place waiting to welcome us all home when our time comes.

The family of Montella L. Robbins Smith has entrusted the care of their loved one to the caring staff of DeVargas Funeral Home of Taos. www.devargastaos.com 1-866-657-4019
