Maria Remedios Maestas

María Remedios Maestas went to Our Lord after a long battle with cancer on October 20, 2020. Our Mellos was a beloved wife, mother, stepmother, daughter, sister and friend. Claudia was a co-owner of the Taos Chicharron Burritos. She loved Taos and had lived here longer than she did in Mexico. She was proud to be an American Citizen. She is preceded in death by her father-in-law Joe Alex Maestas, and brothers-in-law Alex Maestas and Wilbert Vigil. María Remedios is survived by her husband and true love Phillip Maestas; daughters, Isabella and Jamie; stepchildren, Gary (Anita) Maestas, Michelle and Renee (Alejandro); granddaughters, Angelica and Analise; her mother María Guadalupe Guzman; father, Ignacio Zarasúa; Claudia’s siblings, Reyna (Guillermo) Cañedo, Erasto (Teddie) Zarasúa, Horacio (Juana) Zarazúa Guzman, Martha (Juan) Salinas, Juan Zarazúa;  mother-in-law, Josie Maestas;  her brothers-in-law.  Andy (Connie) Maestas, Freddie (Pam) Maestas, Pat Maestas, Terry (Lynette) Maestas, David (Denise) Maestas; sisters-in-law, Joann Gallegos, Elma Vigil, Debbie Maestas, Darlene (Peter) Salazar, Paula (John) Schuldheisz, Margaret (Dennis) Turner, and Julie (Joe Sanchez) Maestas;  godchildren, Brenda García, Omar Armendáriz, and Meheil Escobedo. Serving the family as pallbearers will be, Erasto Zuarsua,  Horacio, and Juanito Zarazúa, Gary and Michelle Maestas, and Alejandro Trujillo. The family wishes to thank DeVargas Funeral Home of Taos, Fr. Michael Garcia, the staff at Presbyterian Hospital, the Catholic Daughters for praying the Rosary, and all our friends and family for the support, love and prayers. Visitation will be held on Monday October 26, 2020 from 2-4pm in the Evergreen Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home of Taos, recitation of the rosary will be held at 6pm.  Due to COVID restrictions only 50 will be allowed to attend and facemasks will be required. Private funeral mass will be held on Tuesday October 27, 2020 at 10am, which will be livestreamed on the San Francisco de Asis Catholic Church Facebook page and website.
