Maria was born in Embudo, grew up and went to school in Pilar.
She was preceded in death by her husband George Romero; parents Bernabe & Elvira Archuleta; in-laws Daniel & Clorinda Romero; children Vangie, Juan, Alejandro and Clorinda; son-in-law Pacomio Mondragon; grandson Daniel Bonifacio; five infant brothers plus Felix and Harold, sister Adelia Romero (Alberto); brothers-in-law Cirilio Saavedra, Antonio Martinez and Levi Romero.
Maria is survived by her children Robert (Priscilla), Joe Ray, Daniel (Roberta), David (Mary) and George (Beverly); 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great grandchildren; siblings Christina, Dona (Donald), Priscilla, Adueminua and Ted (Maureen); sisters-in-law Ruby Saavedra and Jane Romero; brothers-in-law Manuel Valerio (Yolanda), Juan Romero (Susan) and many nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
Maria was a hard-working woman. As a young lady she worked with family and friends in the Embudo and Rinconada, NM areas doing handy work in yards, or picking fruit. She then med her husband, the love of her life and moved to Llano Quemado where together they formed a family. She enjoyed working outside and tending to the farm animals (sheep and goats). Maria also worked for St. Francis Catholic school and several motels/hotels within Taos. She will be missed dearly and will be remembered always in our hearts.
The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff at Mountain Home Hospice for the loving care they provided.
Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at 6:30pm in the Evergreen Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home of Taos. Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at 10:00am at San Francisco de Asis Catholic church, burial will follow at the New Llano Quemado cemetery.
