Manuel Antonio "Tony" Martinez Jr

Manuel Antonio “Tony” Martinez Jr., 88, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on November 18, 2020.

He was preceded in death by his parents Manuel Antonio Sr. and Eloida (Romero) Martinez; parents-in-law Carlos and Mariana Romero, and Juan B. Romero; siblings Ursula Sanchez, Nicanor Martinez, Betty Tafoya, and Alex Martinez; son-in-law Eloy Abeyta; brothers-in-law Felix Gomez, Alonzo Romero, Benito Romero, Richard Sanchez, Felix Sanchez, Leroy Reynolds, and sister-in-law Tonie Romero.

Tony is survived by his wife of 65 years, Olivia Martinez; children Shirley Fernandez, Marcia Abeyta, Mary Ann Martinez, Manuel Antonio Martinez III (Julie), Juan Roberto Martinez (Mary Jo); 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild on the way; siblings Gilbert Martinez (Rose), Claudio Martinez (Angie), Mary Santistevan (Nelson), Norman Martinez (Ruby), Mannie Arguello (Michael); in-laws Agatha Gomez, Julia Romero, Marcia Sanchez, Trinnie Barela (Luis), Agnes Reynolds and Carmen Martinez.  He is also survived by many godchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends whom he loved dearly.

Tony shared many memories from throughout his employment history at the Pot Creek Sawmill, US Forest Service, and at the local Molycorp Mine, and later with Chino/Phelps-Dodge, in Silver City, NM.  He enjoyed 23 years of retirement after retiring from the mining industry.  Tony loved being outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and working with his hands.

Due to COVID-19, the family will be holding private services.
