Mae Vigil Rivera

Mae (Vigil) Rivera was born March 26th, 1934 to Cornelio Vigil and Octavianita (Dominguez) Vigil.

She is preceded in death by her husband Frank Rivera; three infant daughters; parents Cornelio and Octavianita Vigil; her in-laws Daniel and Anne Rivera; her sister Lorencita Mares (†Lloyd); and her brother David Vigil.

She is survived by her loving, caring and constant companion, her daughter Gailene Rivera; her step-granddaughters Mary and Ruby; great-grandchildren Emily, Ramon, Ashley, Dominic, Desiderio and Demetrio; many nieces and nephews and friends. 

Mom’s love for her family also extended to all the kids she touched with her gentle words and genuine affection she shared with them. She spent many years as a foster grandparent at Saint Francis, Ranchos Elementary School and Llano Quemado. She also spent time as a Senior Companion.

Special thanks to Terecita Valerio, her Senior companion, for being there till God called mom home. To the nurses and staff at Red Willow Hospice; to Jane Compton and my work family; the staff at Dr. Schreiber’s office for the care, love and affection they showed my mom; for prayers by Father Mike and rosaries by the Guadalupanas. 

Thank you, my family and everyone’s support, kind words, love and prayers, during this most difficult time. If I have forgotten to mention any kindness or special time you spent with Mom, Gailene would like to express her most heartfelt thanks knowing no words will never express my appreciation and love I feel for you. 

Serving the family as pallbearers will be Ruby Ortiz Rodriguez, Roberta Ortiz, Dominic Ortiz, Desiderio Ortiz, Ramon Chavez and Abel Rodriguez. 

Rosary will be recited on Thursday, February 27, 2025 at 9:00am, Mass of Christian burial will follow at 10:00am at San Francisco de Asís Catholic church. Burial will follow at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Costilla, NM.
