Luciano Vigil September 18, 1935 – April 7, 2025

Luciano "Lou" Vigil, 89, passed away peacefully at his home on April 7, 2025. He was born on September 18, 1935, in Ranchos de Taos, New Mexico, to Donacina Aragon Vigil. He was preceded in death by his three sisters Dora, Maria, Porfie, and his two brothers Cornilio and Jake. Lou lived a life full of love, service, and joy.

He was married for 49 years to the love of his life, Susan Vigil, with whom he shared countless memories and experiences. He had two children, Brenda Adams (Bill) and Glen Vigil, and three stepchildren Shelbie, Douglas, and Lee (Linda) Donelson. Lou was a devoted grandfather to 9 grandchildren, two of whom he had the privilege of raising, Cody and Ben.

A proud veteran, Lou served in the United States Navy for four years and was in civil service for over 40 years. Lou traveled the world beginning with the US Navy aboard the USS Franklin Roosevelt CVA-42, an aircraft carrier with voyages through the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and the Mediterranean Sea. Lou served as a Spanish language interpreter while the carrier made a port of call in Spain.

After the Navy, Lou entered the U.S. Air Force Civil Service in Colorado and completed tours in England and Germany before retiring in 1998.

Always at work, Lou started as a government contractor with Lovern Inc on June 24, 1998, before retiring with Susan in Taos, NM in 2007, a chapter of his life that filled him with great pride. He was a kind and generous man, always ready to lend a hand and offer a smile to those around him. His warmth and compassion touched the lives of everyone he met.

Lou had a passion for dancing, and he could often be heard saying, “I have moves and can still cut a rug.” His love for life, music, and movement brought joy to everyone who had the pleasure of being in his company.

As we mourn his loss, we take comfort in the words of the Lord: "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit." — Psalm 34:18

And, "Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your Lord." — Matthew 25:21

Lou leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and laughter. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. May he rest in peace, knowing that his life was a testament to faith, family, and the joy of living with an open heart.
