Juan E. Duran

Juan Duran (Gato), our beloved father, brother, grandfather, uncle and nephew of Penasco, NM passed away suddenly May 14, 2022, at the age of 51.

He was preceded in death by his parents Erminio and Rose Duran; his brother Leo Duran; and Maggie Rodarte the mother of his two youngest daughters.

Juan (Gato) is survived by his son John Duran and his daughters Jaelynn, Mackayla and Briona Duran; siblings Aurora Tsosie (Dale), Erminio Duran Jr, Rumalda Sale (Salei) and ELee Duran; his grandchildren Mezmeri and Melanie; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

He was born in Taos, NM to Erminio and Rose Duran on January 20, 1971. Juan attended school in Penasco, NM. He used to fight wildfires in his younger days. He also worked in masonry and construction for over 30 years all over the State. Juan also worked in carpentry, as a mechanic and in electrical work. He was just an overall handy man.  His hobbies were fishing, hunting, going for wood and storytelling.  Juan was so outgoing he would strike up a conversation with anyone and everyone.  He was also very helpful and caring.  Juan and his best friend Harvey were always together working or enjoying the day outdoors. Juan’s family loved his cooking, constantly asking for his tortillas, sopapillas and enchiladas.
