Joseph T. "Red" Romero

Joseph T. Romero (Tele or Red), 85, of Talpa, New Mexico, passed away on April 11th, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Talpa on August 3, 1939, to Willie and Lydia Romero. He was a devoted Son, Husband, Father, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa, Great-Great Grandpa, Brother / Brother-in-Law and Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Joseph retired from the Taos Municipal Schools after 57 years of driving school busses in which he started as a senior in high school. He was a school bus Contractor, Farmer, Rancher, and a Great Fisherman.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Andres and Jesusita Valerio of Talpa; his parents Willie and Lydia Romero of Talpa; Father and Mother-in-law, Ben and Faye Carter of Norman, Arkansas; and his son David Timothy Romero, Sr. of Talpa.

Tele is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Effie Faye Carter Romero; his daughter Annette (Angelo) Vigil; his five grandchildren, Angelo Vigil, Melissa Romero Drury, David T. Romero Jr. (Jazzmond), Angelina Vigil, and Amanda Romero (Hunter); six great-grandchildren, Joseph (Irene), Izaah (Kay), Curtis David, Max, Dylan, and Ava; one great-great grandson, Izaah Angelo Vigil Jr.; His only brother Aaron (Angie) Romero also of Talpa, along with many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

Memorial service will be held on Saturday April 26, 2025 at 10am in the Evergreen Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home of Taos.
