Jose Baudilio Gonzales of Cañon Plaza, NM passed away peacefully on May 17, 2022. He was born in Cañon Plaza de Vallecítos to Eutilia C. Gonzales and Jose Macedonio Gonzales.

Jose enlisted in the Army and served as a Private First-Class E-3 in the Army Corps of Engineers during the Korean War where he served overseas and was discharged with Honors on June 3, 1959.

Jose is preceded in death by his parents; by his siblings Raquel and Josefita Gonzales of Cañon Plaza, NM; Ernestina G. Valdez of Ojo Caliente, NM; Maryan Martínez of Cañon Plaza, NM; Guillermo “Willie” Gonzales of Santa Fé, NM; Eufelia “Alice” Varela of Kearns, UT; Brothers-in-law Salomon Valdez of Ojo Caliente, NM; Ramon Martínez of Cañon Plaza, NM; Benjamin “Benny” Trujillo of Boone, CO; Manuel Lorenzo Varela of Kearns, UT; Nephews Samuel A. Gonzales of Ojo Caliente and Manuel Norman “Sonny” Varela of UT.

Jose is survived by his sister Priscilla G. Trujillo of Boone, CO; Nephews Kenneth Trujillo, Danny Trujillo and Joseph Trujillo, all of Pueblo, CO; Nieces Yolanda Trujillo of Pueblo, CO; Annette Hegmann of Torrence, CA; Yvonne Meyers of Palmdale, CA and Special Nieces Sivie Gonzales of Ojo Caliente, NM; Renée Lynda Martínez of Ranchos de Taos, NM and Margie Lee “GiGi” Varela of Taylorsville, UT. He is also survived by numerous loving Primos and Primas.

The Family of Jose Baudilio Gonzales would like to thank the Staff at Taos Healthcare (formerly Taos Living Center), with a special thanks to Tracy Ivy, Jacqueline Gonzales, Sofia Lopez, Ric Morgan, Albert Dean, Dr. Robert White, Eva Concha, Gabriella, Gina, Loretta, Maria, Steve, Desirée, Isabel, Monica, Roberto, Carlos, Dorota, Marlene, Rocío, Alán, Elida, Socorro and Dionne Bilal. They would also like to acknowledge the very special relationship that their Tío Joe had with Nadine, John and Henry who were staff at the Española Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where he lived for many years before coming to Taos.

Jose’s Family would finally like to thank Joaquin and Denise from DeVargas Funeral Home for their most caring and compassionate treatment during this incredibly sad and difficult time.

Committal Service and burial will take place on Wednesday June 15, 2022 at 9:30 am at the Santa Fé National Cemetery.
