Jose “Richard” Romero, 73, a resident of Taos, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on October 15, 2024. Richard graduated from Taos High School in 1969, served in the United Sates Army 1969 – 1972, retired from the United States Postal Service and the New Mexico Army National Guard. He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed hunting, fishing and singing. Pero mas importante era un devoto fanático de los Dallas Cowboys.
He is preceded in death by his daughter Susan Romero; parents Edwardo and Teresa Romero; his in-laws Gabriel and Pita Jeantete; siblings Erlinda Romero (Alfredo), Cora Romero (Leroy), Theresa Reyes and Edward Romero; nephew Edward Romero, Jr; brothers-in-law Gabriel, Arnold and Chuck Jeantete.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years Christine; daughter Rebecca Sutton (Chris); son-in-law Andy Romero; granddaughter Andrea Gallegos whom he raised as his own; grandchildren Andrew and Elyssa; great-grandchildren Mateo and Alivia; brother Nick Romero (Wanda); brothers-in-law Richard Jeantete, Hank Jeantete (Imelda), John Jeantete (Karen) and Richard Reyes; sisters-in-law Bernadette Archuleta (Rick), Angie Jeantete, Doris Jeantete and Lisa Romero; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the ICU nurses at Taos Holy Cross Hospital for their exceptional care and compassion shown during this difficult time.
Serving the family as pallbearers: Nicholas Romero, Adam Reyes, Marcos Jeantete, James Jeantete, Louis Jeantete and Jacob Archuleta.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 8, 2024 at 6:00pm in the Evergreen Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 10:00am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
