Jose Casados

d. August 27, 2022

Jose Ernesto Casados, 100 years of age, beloved brother and uncle, left his earthly home on Saturday, August 27, 2022 after a lengthy illness.  He peacefully passed away in his home in Rio Lucio.  Jose was born January 29, 1922 in Chamisal, NM to Jose de Gracia and Maria Casados.

Jose was preceded in death by his parents Jose de Gracia and Maria Casados; two brothers, Nelson and Casimiro Casados; two sisters, Ercilia Cordova and Delia Lopez; honorary brother-in-law, Teodoro Sandoval and one special nephew, Rocky Sandoval.

Jose is survived by his younger sister, Maria Lugarda Sandoval; his 5 nieces who were like daughters to him and who took care of him, Helen Sanchez (Boliver), Christine Lopez (Harold), Lorraine Archuleta (Ruben), Eva Sandoval (Edward), and Diana Archuleta (Celestino).  Also, one special nephew, Ted Sandoval, Jr. (Ameli).  He is also survived by many more nephews and nieces.

Although Jose never married or had any children of his own, he considered the Sandoval children as his own and he loved them dearly.  Jose was a private man and very few people in the community knew him, but he valued his close relationship with his family.  At a young age, he moved to Rio Lucio with his sister Lugarda and brother-in-law’s family.  This is where he made his home for the next 75+ years.

Jose worked for the Carson National Forest as a Laborer for many years and retired from there.  He was not a materialistic person, and his earthly possessions were few.  In his younger days, he enjoyed watching cowboy movies and game shows.  He was a “good old country boy” and he worked hard.  He enjoyed chopping wood, butchering animals in the farm, and helping with planting and harvesting the goods from the earth.  Even though he was an introverted and shy man, he was a feisty old man in his final days.  He will surely be missed.

Serving the family as Pallbearers are, Ted Sandoval, Jr., Patrick Lopez, Lucas Sanchez, Jeffrey Pacheco, Michael Casados and David Sandoval.

The Family of Jose Casados would like to extend a special thanks to Walter Brennan and Katalina Gurule from Mountain Home Health Care for the excellent help and care that they provided.  We would also like to thank Jose’s home health caregivers, the late Teresita Montoya, Candace Muniz, Loyola Lopez and Joanna Archuleta.  Special thanks to Jeffrey Pacheco for being such a loving caregiver, barber and a great nephew and Mariquita Romero for all the times you prayed the rosary for and with Jose.
