Jose Anselmo “Andy” Torres age 84, whose hard-working hands stopped on November 26, 2024 at his beloved orchard in Cañoncito – Dixon, NM, surrounded by his family.
He was preceded in death by his father Zacarias “Zac” Torres and his mother Candelaria Mascarenas; brother Dennis Torres; brothers-in-law Carlos Trujillo and Asa Reaves.
Andy is survived by his beloved partner, Carmen R. Martinez; children Michael Torres (Nikki) and Marlene Torres (Daniel Vigil), Yvette Jaramillo, David L. Martinez (Anita), Paul G. Martinez (Carmella), Micheal Miller (Lindsey), who was raised by both Andy & Carmen as a son; grandchildren Jarrod, Misty (Carlos), Jorja (Skyler), Jade (Justin), Lexus, Jasmine (Derrick), Cody, Maria Elena (Art), Jeremy (Julia), Arthur (Ashley), Santiago, Francisco (Oralis), Larry, A.J. (Lauryn) and Reyanna; 18 great-grandchildren; ex-daughter-in-law Melissa; sisters Helena Reaves, Tina Trujillo (Robert), Natalie Herrera (Eldy), Lucille Long (Pat), brothers Bernie Torres (Gladys) and Julian Torres (Dora); also too numerous to mention nieces, nephews, cousins, compadres and numerous friends.
Andy worked for the county of Taos for years. Our Lord gave Andy the great gift of music, which he shared with various church choirs, many 100-mile Pilgrimages to Chimayo and multiple community events throughout his life. He could play any instrument, but his love was his accordion. He also was Mr. Fix-It Man, for he could repair a great number of things. During his last thirty years, he acquired a great love of gardening, his hot green chile and various fruits which he shared graciously with many, along with his Atole and Chaquegüe.
Rosary will be recited by numerous Peregrinos and Guadalupanas at 9:00am, followed by the Mass of Christian burial at 10:00am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic church in Taos, NM on Thursday, December 5, 2024. A Celebration of Life meal will follow at St. Joseph’s Hall immediately after the mass. ** Procession to the burial will leave at 1:30pm from Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic church, to the Amalia Cemetery.
Music during Mass will be provided in Andy’s honor by his beloved St. Anthony’s Peñasco Choir and others.
Serving as pallbearers are as follows: Grandsons Jarrod Torres, Jeremy Martinez, Arthur Martinez, Francisco Martinez, Larry Martinez, A.J. Martinez, Micheal Miller and Damian Martinez.
Honorary pallbearers: Cody Jaramillo and Santiago Martinez as well as all his granddaughters and great-grandchildren.
