Joan Dobson

d. January 2, 2021

Joan Louise Dobson was born in Hammond, Indiana, on June 10, 1937 and passed away peacefully on January 2, 2021, in Taos, New Mexico.  Joan grew up in Calumet City, Illinois, as the only child of John Foley, a railroad employee, and Margaret Foley, a nurse.  She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from Kansas State University and a Master’s of Library Science from the University of North Texas.  Working in several libraries in the Dallas, Texas area, Joan was an active member of the Texas Librarians Association and represented this organization at a national level.  In her later years, she and her husband (John Dobson) moved to Taos and built an Eco-Friendly Earth Ship. They operated the “Dobson House” as a B&B for more than 20 years.  She was adventurous, a librarian, chef, innkeeper extraordinaire, loving partner to her husband for more than 50 years and supported unconditionally the personal and professional choices of her family. She anticipated the yearly Dixon Art Tours where she loved meeting artists and adding to her eclectic art collection.  She also spent many hours walking in the Rio Grande gorge near her home.  She is survived by her husband, John, and children Cindy Dobson (Dave Stark), Patrick Dobson (Jennifer Blank), Janine Clark (Dean Clark) and Chris Dobson (Erin Dobson). The family of Joan Louise Dobson has entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home of Taos.  www.devargastaos.com 1-866-657-4019
