Jesse Riggs, 43, passed away at home in El Prado, New Mexico on February 6, 2024, after a long battle with cancer. She was surrounded by the love of her family during her illness. Jesse was born Jan 20, 1981, in Smithville, Missouri to Tom and Mona Riggs. The family moved to Liberty, MO in 1983. Jesse attended Liberty Schools graduating in 1999. She was a member of the National Honor Society. Jesse attended the University of Kansas and graduated with an Art History degree in 2004. Jesse’s life has been filled with many adventures and travels. She lived briefly in Florida and California with friends before meeting and marrying Miles Bonny in 2006. Jesse and Miles briefly made their home in Kansas City, MO. They were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Luna, and Georgia. Jesse always had a love for nature. She loved to garden, hike, look for interesting rocks and was interested in creating a more sustainable life for her family. She was known for her determination and perseverance. Her family of four moved to New Mexico in 2013 and built and off-grid strawbale adobe home. Jesse and Miles divorced and continued to co-parent their beloved daughters in Taos NM. Jesse worked locally at the Taos Diner and the Taos Market where she met many friends. One person she met was local Chef Andrew Horton when he came in to shop at the Market. Jesse and Andrew fell in love and married in 2017. Jesse continued to be interested in building, took classes, and received her Builders Certificate. She served as the contractor for her family home completed in 2021. She then formed her own business selling Groasis Water boxes and was New Mexico’s Official Groasis Water box distributor. Jesse’s memory will be held precious by her husband Andrew Horton and her daughters Luna and Georgia Bonny. She will also be remembered lovingly by her parents Tom and Mona Riggs, her sister Leah Warren, Leah’s husband Jacob Warren and their two sons Knox and Nash. Drew and Mary Horton, her mother and father- in-law along with Liz and Matt Daniels, her sister and brother-in-law will also miss Jesse. Jesse will be missed by her many aunts, uncles and cousins, and her extended family. The family would like to thank all our family and friends who contributed to the fundraiser, our beloved Taos community, Red Willow Hospice, Marissa, Lauren and Butch. A Memorial service will be held on Sunday February 25, 2024, at the Woodneath Library Auditorium 8900 NE Flintlock Road Kansas City, MO 64157 at 2:00pm. A Taos Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday April 2, 2024, at 1130am in the Martyrs back room, located at 146 Paseo Del Pueblo Norte Taos NM 87571.
