James R. Martinez

James R. Martinez, (Hawk), age 67, a resident of El Prado, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2023.

Everyone knew James aka Jimmy "Hawk" for his big personality, happy heart, and unique silliness that could make everyone laugh. The way he would light up a room and bring so much joy to those he loved is irreplaceable and will never be forgotten. James loved everything outdoors from skiing, hunting, fishing, to camping. But most of all, he was a loving, kind, son; father; grandfather; sibling; uncle; and friend. He loved Jesus and prayed often; he sought to glorify The Lord in his last days. James retired from Taos Ski Valley after 35+ committed and hard-working years as a Ski Repair Specialist/Technician. During those years, he developed close relationships with many employees and skiers. We will miss him and may his name be for a blessing.

James is preceded in death by his mother, Bettie Martinez; father, Menard Martinez, Sr.; sibling Loretta Rael; nephew (like a sibling) Jason Rael; and sister-in-law Louella Martinez. He is survived by his children, Enrika Romo (Carlos), Sophia Sanchez (Justin), Rianna Herrera (Jesus); siblings: John A. Martinez, Menard Martinez Jr; niece/nephew (like siblings to him) Ricardo Valdez (Sonia), Tammy Rael (Juan), Brian Rael (Rosita); grandchildren Elijah, Josiah, Sariah, Micah, Moshe, Eliana, Alex Walter, Daniel (Anjelica), Aquiles (Sandra), Gabriella (Juan); and great grandson Urijah.

Nieces and Nephews Ryan (Anita), Janice (Jason), Lisa, Lori (Jonathan); Menard III, Antonio, Carlos (Julianne); great nieces and nephews; Andrew (Kim), Alicia (Steve); Kryshelle, Kylee, Aliyah; auntie Elma Esparza and special 2nd cousin, Marie, and many other relatives and friends.

Sophia and Enrika, along with the Taos Ski Valley, will be hosting a Celebration of Life Party for James, “Jimmy Hawk” Martinez. We hope that all those that loved him will come and share memories and fellowship with us this Sunday:
