Irene Savanyo (Lemley) age 62, passed away on June 30, 2021 after a brief battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Allan Lemley, her son Nicolas Lemley (Kelsey Ochsner) and granddaughter Lennon Irene Rose. She is also survived by her brothers; John (Michelle Cope) and Joseph Savanyo. She was preceded in death by her father, Jozsef Savanyo and mother Anna Bartha Savanyo.
Irene was raised in Detroit Michigan. She met Allan at NMSU in 1979 while she was pursuing her Master in Geology. They married here in Taos at St. Francis in 1981. She retired from the USDA Forest Service (Carson National Forest Service) after a long career as an IT manager. She also served with the Naval Oceanographic Office and the Manti LaSalle Forest Service.
Allan and Irene settled in Taos in 2000. They fell in love with this area from years of ski vacations. They established their home and raised Nick here with a love of the outdoors. She was an enthusiastic skier, hiker, gardener, Hockey fan and a master chef and crocheter.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday July 9, 2021 at 10:00am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Taos. Burial will be immediately following at the Sierra Vista Cemetery.
