Francisco Maestas, 92, of Talpa passed away peacefully on August 13, 2024, surrounded by family.
He was preceded in death by his parents Pascual and Eleonor Maestas; wife Rosabel; and brothers Guillermo and Eleuto (Ida) Maestas.
Francisco was born in Talpa on November 6, 1931. He was a proud Army veteran, reaching the rank of Private First Class and served as a French language interpreter during post-WWII reconstruction. He earned a Master’s Degree in Education and retired from teaching Spanish at Taos Junior High School in 1988.
Francisco loved to read, take care of the land, his cows, and spend time with family and friends.
He is survived by his siblings Agustina (Ben), Ella (Samuel), Enedina (†Toby), Josefina (Orlando “Lucky”) and Pascual (Josie); children Darryl (Julie), Russell (Lisa), Carla (Brett); grandchildren Pascualito, Noah (Angelique), Kaelin (Jake), Kelly and Grayson; great-grandson Solito and many nieces, nephews, family and friends who loved and will miss him.
Francisco was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and teacher.
Rosary will be recited on Friday, September 13, 2024 at 5:00pm, Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at 10:00am, both at San Francisco de Asís Catholic church. Burial will follow at the Talpa Cemetery.
