Francisca P. Chavez

Francisca P. Chavez, 56 years, a resident of Ranchos de Taos passed away peacefully on September 18, 2021, surrounded by family, friends and in our hearts.

She was preceded in death by her granddaughter Justice Esperanza Cantu; parents Loretta DeHerrera and John P. Mares, Manuelita and George Chavez; paternal grandparents Beatrice and Paul Mares; her beloved Blas E. Duran; stepdaughter Antonia Miera; uncles Clarence Mares and Paul Martinez; special cousins George Paul Salazar, Cruz G. Chavez II, and special Angel Nikolas (Niko) Martinez.

Francisca is survived by her children Andrea Maria Chavez (Johnny), Andrew Mario Duran (Cubby); her loving partner Anthony Miera; granddaughters Angelica Cantu (her pumpkin pie), Sierra Nevaeh and Alyanna Archuleta, Alexi Tiffany Duran (her Mona), great-granddaughter Mia Cantu; sister Antonia Mares (Gilbert), brother John Paul Mares (Monica), sister Kathryn Coppedge (Tom), brothers David Mares (Renee) and Steven Mares; step children Tanya Miera (Matt) and Christine Miera; godson Antonio Mares; sisters/aunts Cecilia Valdez, Sarah Salazar (Orlando), Sylvia Martinez, Lupe Anaya (Mike), Cruz Chavez (Elma), Lucaria Chavez,  Chris Chavez (Mary Lou), Carmella Chavez Villafranca and Bettina Pacheco (Manuel), aunts Joanne Castillo (Sef), Delia Ortega, Frances Parraz (Tommy), and Bonnie Mares.  In-laws Stephanie Rivera, Johnny Duran (Isabelle), Meliton Duran (Dolores), and Beatrice Duran; Special friend who she cared for, Michael Mondragon, special nieces Estrella Mares, Miquela Pacheco, Carol Ortega and  Myra Montano; special nephews Miguel Leon, Lyle Ortega, Jerome JJ Valerio and Isaiah Chavez, plus many more loving relatives and friends.

Public visitation will be held on Monday September 27, 2021 from 10am to 12pm in the Evergreen Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home of Taos.  Rosary will be recited on Tuesday September 28, 2021 at 9am followed by the Funeral Mass at 10am at San Francisco de Asís Catholic Church, burial will follow at the Miera Cemetery.  A meal to honor Francisca will take place after the burial at the Llano Quemado Community Center.
