Frances Chavez, previous resident of El Prado and longtime resident of Llano Quemado left this earth on February 6, 2023. She was born on April 22, 1944 to Albert (Tito) and Mercedes Silva.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Jose Evaristo Silva, Tomas Silva, and Albert Silva and her sisters Rose (Marceau) Sautlet, and Irene Silva. She is survived by her husband Andrew Chavez, sons, David and Greg Chavez (Marissa), brother Lester Silva (Nancy), sisters Mercy Torres (Del), Ida Mondragon, Bernice Silva, Darla Wilson (Leo), Yvette Mondragon (Joe), and Anna Silva, grandchildren, Aurelia , Natalia, Creed, Sebastian Serin, Taya, and Remy Chavez.
Frances is survived by many nephews and nieces each of which she individually told that he or she was her favorite. After her death, each of them revealed that he or she was her favorite. After much discussion, they were all content that she loved them all the same. Frances’ family roots run deep in Taos County and she had many other relatives.
Frances loved to travel and had the opportunity to visit several countries in Europe, Central America, the Caribbean, and South America. Of course, she also traveled to many of the states and north to Canada. She also loved to paint and created several paintings.
In spite of being born with only one complete arm, Frances had many accomplishments from learning how to ride a bicycle at a young age, learning to type, becoming a secretary, making her own clothes, combing her El Prado neighborhood girlfriend’s hair, obtains a bachelor’s degree in business administration and holding a variety of jobs in government and the private sector. Although she had many accomplishments, what she was the proudest of was having raised two sons that both obtained PhDs.
Frances’ rosary will be at the San Francisco De Assis Church in Ranchos de Taos at 6pm on Monday February 13, 2023. The Mass of Christian burial will be at the same church the following day February 14, 2023 at 10am. Her burial will follow at the New Llano Quemado Cemetery. A meal will be served to celebrate her life at The Llano Quemado Community Center following her burial.
Serving the family as pallbeares will be, Sabastian Chavez, Creed Chavez, Dion Silva, Willam Espinoza, Jeremy Torres, and Manuel Torres.
