Eleuto G. Maestas, 90, of Taos, passed away on April 9, 2024, at his home in La Loma. He is preceded in death by his parents Pascual and Elenor Maestas and his oldest brother, Guillermo, from Talpa. He is survived by this wife of 69 years, Ida Santistevan Maestas and his five children Loretta (Steve), Naomi, Jackie, Eleuto R., and Phoebe (Earl); his siblings, brothers Francisco and Ralph and his sisters Tina, Enedina, Elenora (Ella) and Josie along with numerous grandchildren, nephews, nieces and friends. He was a proud member of the Taos Volunteer Fire Department, of which he remained an active supporter until his death. He was a member of the New Mexico Army National Guard in Taos, Santa Fe, and Fort Bliss, Texas for 38 years where he achieved the rank of Command Sergeant Major. He served in Vietnam from 1969-1970 as a First Sergeant of a M-42 “Duster” Battery. He returned home to a position as the full-time technician in the Taos’ Detachment 1, Battery B, 200th Air Defense Artillery. Eleuto loved his family, home and community, fishing, hunting, and spending time outdoors.
Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at 4pm at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Mass of Christian burial will be on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at 10am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Burial will follow at 2:30pm at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with full Military Honors.
