David Michael Maestas passed away to Heaven on April 25th, 2024 after complications from his cancer recovery at the age of 50. David was born July 14, 1973. He was known affectionately as GG or Geeg to many. He was a sensitive soul and wore his heart on his sleeve. He would always say, “How are you doing my friend?” David was a lot of wonderful things, son, brother, uncle, nephew, grandson, friend. Most importantly he was a caring, trusting and loving person. He saw the best in people. He loved his nieces and nephews. He was fun, goofy and adventurous. He loved singing random songs and cruising his Camaro around. He loved his dogs. Dave was just a bright light in the world. He was and will always be one of the best parts of our family. That bond is unbreakable and will span over eternity. We wanted so badly for his story to end with him beating cancer and living life to the fullest. He had plans, our family had hopes for adventures to come, and desires to experience many more memories with Dave. David taught those around him many lessons, but the largest was one of perseverance. David showed immense strength, faith, and courage through all the obstacles in his life, and if you are familiar with Dave’s story, you know there were many tribulations he faced and overcame. He was a miracle child, surviving a fatal car accident that took his mother and sister, resulting in Dave being in a coma for 17 days. They thought Dave would never walk or function like a typical child again, but he proved them wrong, relearning to walk and talk, and later becoming a successful student athlete. His childhood doctor often referred to him as his miracle patient and Dave touched his doctor’s heart so much, he would attend Dave’s varsity football games. After high school, David enlisted in the US Navy, serving on the USS Constellation during which he passed the equator and went around Cape Horn. Ultimately, death snatched Dave away from us. Dave’s life story is one of a kind and his death causes immense sadness, but we want you to be inspired to persevere and have faith through whatever life presents you. His mind was still working towards beating this latest obstacle, but he was weary, his body was tired, and he just couldn’t carry on anymore. He was and always will be loved and missed.
