Darlene Montoya

Darlene Montoya, affectionately known as Chata, passed away on August 24, 2024, in her hometown of Taos, where she was born on September 9, 1958. Darlene was married 47 years to Mario Montoya and together they created a loving family. She is survived by her three children, Marlene, Mario Jr. (Esmeralda) and Dominic (Marissa), as well as her cherished grandchildren, Mikaylon, Hailee, Laylani, Dominic Jr and Amaya (and their mother, Jessica Montoya) all who brought her immense joy. 

Darlene had 5 Godchildren: Stephanie, Victoria, Lorena, Zach and Maria. Darlene is survived by her sisters Diana Martinez (Reynaldo), MaryAnn Casias, Terecita Casias, Carla Casias, Senovia Casias (Donald Santistevan) and Melanie Casias (Gregorio Morales). Darlene is preceded in death by her parents, Anita and Delubino Casias Sr., and her brothers, Delubino Jr. and Arturo Casias. 

She dedicated 22 years of her life to serving at Holy Cross Hospital, leaving a lasting impact on her colleagues and the many lives she touched during her career. 

Darlene will be remembered for her funny, kind, compassionate and loving nature, qualities that endeared her to everyone who knew her. Her legacy of warmth and laughter will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.

Memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 6, 2024 at 10:00am in the Evergreen Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home, burial will follow at 12:30pm at the Angel Fire Veterans Cemetery.
