Carmelita Maria Lucero

Carmelita Maria Lucero of Amalia, NM was 95 years old and was born on May 19, 1927, and peacefully passed away on July 14, 2022. Carmelita was born to Juan Benito and Raquel Trujillo in Amalia, NM and raised by her grandparents Genaro and Andrea Gonzales in Amalia.  She passed peacefully at home surround by loving family. Carmelita was preceded in death by grandparents, parents, her husband, four sisters, three brothers, one grandson and one granddaughter.

She is survived by siblings Genaro Trujillo, Donald Trujillo and Erla Trujillo; her children, Evelyn Trujillo (John), Estella Romero (Gasper), Steve Lucero (Dolores), Luisa Lucero, Leroy Lucero (Sally-deceased), Bernice Lucero, Wilfred Lucero (Theresa), Linda Lucero (Carnell), Elizabeth Lucero, Maria Lucero (Gabe); 20 surviving grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, 22 great-great grandchildren. Carmelita was a devoted Catholic, dedicated to praying for others, she loved caring for her garden, getting dressed up to go dancing and she always had fresh homemade tortillas and a hot meal for anyone that came to visit. Her prayers will be missed.

Rosary will be recited on Friday July 22, 2022 at 10:00am followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Costilla.  Burial will follow at the Amalia Cemetery.
