Arthur E. Vargas 77 years passed away unexpectedly on January 7, 2022. He was born to Robert and Martha Vargas on April 2, 1944 in San Francisco, Calif. He was also known as Arturo and Art to family and friends.
Arthur served his country in the United States Air Force from 1963-1967 and in the Army National Guard from 1995-2015. He was deployed to Iraq during Operation Desert Storm in 1991.
Arthur graduated from the University of Washington at Seattle in 1975 with a Juris Doctor degree and went on to private practice for many years. He then served as assistant District Attorney in Las Vegas, New Mexico for several years. He then returned to private practice in Taos in 2012 until his retirement in 2017.
Arthur is survived by his daughters MJ Montoya (Josh) and Sonya de Vargas; his grandson Echo Diego Montoya who will make his debut in Feb 2022. He was excitedly looking forward to meeting his first grandchild, but it was not to be.
Arturo was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Martha Vargas, his grandparents on both sides who played an important role in his life in his younger years. He was also preceded in death by his infant son Arturo Lauro Vargas and infant brother Donald Vargas.
Arturo is also survived by his sisters Christine Vargas, Patricia Vargas, Viviana Gonzales (Raymond), 3 aunts, 5 nephews, 4 nieces, many cousins and friends. And special friends Sandra Oaxaca-Vargas and Paulina Oaxaca-Estrada.
And a special special thanks to his caregiver Kimberly Bossio who cared for him for the last few years of his life. He called her his angel and she certainly is an angel.
Rest in peace Arturo. Til we meet again. We love you.
