Alonso Eliseo Gurule age 82, a resident of Peñasco, NM, passed away on December 5, 2020.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jose A. and Amedea Gurule; daughters Geneva (GG) Gurule and Angela Gurule; granddaughter Nicole; grandparents Max and Maria (LaLa) Gurule, Epimeno and Filomenia Romero; siblings Irene Medina, Eugene and Nelson Gurule.
Alonso was known in the area as “Mr. Potato Man”, because he loved to park and sell potatoes, chili, and other items from his truck.
He is survived by his domestic partner of 39 years Juanita Garcia who cared for him until his final days; daughters Tina and Brenda Gurule; special grandson John Paul Chavez; great-grandchildren Alyah and Eli Chavez; his sister Sylvia Vigil, plus many nephews and nieces whom loved him dearly and also had a special relationship with him. Special and close friends include Adelina Romero, Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Martinez, Mr. and Mrs. Ambrose Mascarenas, Eloy Mascarenas, Mr. and Mrs. Eufelio Vasquez, sister-in-law Irene Esquibel, Lydia and Johnny Vidaurre, Katie Lujan, members of the LDS Church.
A big thank you to CNS nurses Amy Chavez, Maggie Rivera, Mandy Healy who lovingly cared for him and all the CNS staff. Also, the hospice staff who tended to him during the last weeks and Dr. David Gould from the Peñasco Clinic. May he rest in peace. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
